2025 Cebu Earthquake Response

A powerful magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck off northern Cebu on September 30, toppling homes, damaging bridges and roads, and leaving dozens dead and hundreds injured across the central Philippines. The quake sent residents rushing out of their homes as buildings shook violently. Report by Inquirer.net

Bike Scouts is currently deployed to ground zero in Northern Cebu providing immediate and locally-led help and support for affected areas in partnership with our technical response partners from Team ZEDRU, Philippine Business for Social Progress, Waves for Water, Lyfsaver App, Air Asia, and our generous individual donors and sponsors. This response is ongoing, we still need your support!

One of the unique and important things that Bike Scouts teams are doing on the ground in this and other disaster areas is to collect and bring out the plastic waste that accumulates from relief goods distribution. It makes sense to us to help people but also make sure that we do not contribute to the cause of the problems that people experience because of climate-driven disasters.

Bike Scouts is also proud to support the individual actions and initiatives of its local teams in the Batanes Islands, Bicol, and Masbate in response to the effects of category-5 Typhoon Ragasa and Typhoon Opong.

Bike Scouts serves as a platform for social teamwork that provides the local Filipino culture of Bayanihan or "people helping each other solve local challenges" with the network of support it needs to do good at the scale that its needed in the face of the ever-growing scale and frequency of climate-driven disasters in a country like the Philippines that has been ranked first as the most disaster-vulnerable place in the world for seventeen consecutive years.

2025 Storm and Flood Response

Bike Scouts is a platform for social teamwork for true local resilience and response, using bicycles, people power, and technology to provide access to information, communications, and essential supplies to places isolated by disasters.

Please considering supporting local Bike Scouts teams that are serving in their own communities in storm and flood-affected areas of the Philippines.

We are an unfunded community-led disaster resilience and response platform that has been on the ground in all of the major disaster events in the Philippines in the past eleven years. We need support!
